Safety shoes for agriculture & forestry

Agriculture, forestry and machine contractors place uncompromising demands on footwear. The surface changes between wet grass, mud, barn floors, concrete, steel steps and forest floor. You encounter oil, slurry, grease, cleaning agents and hard mechanical wear – often in cold, rain and varying terrain. The right safety shoes and boots combine S3/S5 protection, water repellency or waterproofness, oil and chemical resistance, SRC slip resistance and comfort for many hours of work.

At Imagewear.dk we have collected safety footwear for daily use in barns, fields and forests – from lightweight shoes to robust safety boots and models with cold insulation. If you are unsure where to start, you can see our main category for safety shoes or related environments such as service & cleaning (slippery, wet floors), light industry (indoor assembly) and black industry (extreme wear and heat).

Which safety class is suitable for agriculture & forestry?

  • S3: Toe cap, nail cap and water-repellent upper (WRU). A strong starting point for stables, workshops, feed plants and machine rooms.
  • S5: For rubber boots (polymer/PVC/nitrile) in wet, chemical or slurry environments. Provides full protection with toe cap + nail guard in waterproof construction.
  • SRC: Top level for step test – important on slippery gaps, steel steps, wet concrete and plank floors in logging areas.
  • ESD/antistatic: Relevant in certain workshop areas and with electronics/service equipment – but not a general requirement in the field/forest.

Tip: Choose outsoles with a coarse pattern and self-cleaning profile in the field and forest – this provides better grip in mud and loose soil. On stable floors and steel steps, SRC is essential.

Selected brands & categories

We carry safety shoes and boots that perform in agriculture, forestry and machine shops. Feel free to combine footwear with durable workwear for a complete solution:

  • Monitor safety shoes – robust models with soft midsoles, strong upper leather/textile reinforcements and SRC outsoles.
  • AIRTOX safety shoes – modern, lightweight and breathable designs; find S3 models for stables and workshops.
  • HKSDK safety shoes – Danish comfort and high wear resistance for Nordic conditions; good all-round models for changing surfaces.
  • Solid Gear safety shoes – technical sole packages and solid upper materials; suitable for demanding conditions in fields and machine houses.
  • Toe Guard safety shoes – strong price/performance, wide size range and core protection for heavy duty use.
  • Mascot workwear (tops & trousers) – combine shoes/boots with durable workwear for a complete solution from head to toe.

Selection guide: stables, fields and forests

Stables & feed plants

Here, water repellency, oil and manure resistance and SRC are in focus. Choose S3 safety shoes with robust uppers/textiles and strong soles, or S5 safety boots for frequent contact with liquids, cleaning agents and slurry. Non-marking soles are an advantage on light floors and epoxy zones.

Machine station & workshop

If you work with repairs, service and metal shavings, you should choose S3 with nail cap, antistatic properties and SRC. Lightweight composite toe can reduce fatigue when walking a lot; choose heel stability and torsional support for ladder and step work.

Field work & driving

Changing surfaces and many ingress/egresses require grip, shock absorption and a stable heel cap. A shoe that does not “hang” in pedals increases safety. Consider a water-repellent upper or membrane when working in wet grass and heavy soil.

Forest & terrain

In the forest, the ground is uneven with roots, leaves, stones and mud. An aggressive outsole with a rough pattern, S3protection and reinforced toe are obvious. Where work is carried out near chainsaws, you should use special footwear with chainsaw protection - choose a certified solution for that specific task.

Key features for better safety and comfort

  • Waterproof/water-repellent construction: Membrane or WRU upper depending on how often you are in a wet environment.
  • Oil, fertilizer and chemical resistance: Outsoles and uppers that are resistant to agricultural fluids and cleaning agents.
  • SRC slip resistance: Secure grip on slippery crevices, steel steps and wet concrete surfaces.
  • Coarse, self-cleaning sole pattern: Better traction in mud and loose soil – soil and straw slip off more easily.
  • Shock absorption: High-rebound PU/EVA midsoles protect knees, hips and lower back during long shifts.
  • Stable heel cap & torsion support: Important on ladders, steps and uneven terrain.
  • Cold insulation: Padded shaft/insert or insulating sole for winter use and early mornings.
  • Practical closures: Classic lacing, quick-lace or wheel system – choose what suits the job.

Comfort = all-day productivity

The best safety footwear is the one you can wear the entire workday. Choose a fit with room in the toe box, a stable heel and insoles that support the arch and heel cushion. Wear the socks you work in – sweat-wicking materials without rough seams reduce friction. Consider going half a size up for thick winter socks.

Maintenance & longevity

  • Clean regularly: Rinse off mud, slurry and chemicals – especially the sole and joints. This prolongs grip and material strength.
  • Air dry: Avoid direct heat – it dries out materials and shortens lifespan.
  • Change insoles: Every 3–6 months with daily use for fresh comfort and hygiene.
  • Rotate two pairs: Especially in wet periods – shoes/boots have time to dry, comfort lasts longer.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Should I choose shoes (S3) or boots (S5)?

Working in wet, slurry or chemical environments calls for S5 boots. For workshops and mixed operations, S3 shoes are often enough. Many choose both and switch depending on the task.

What does SRC mean?

SRC is the highest level of step test. It is recommended for smooth barn floors, steel steps, wet concrete and other critical surfaces.

When does a membrane make sense?

In frequent contact with water or wet grass, where feet must be kept dry for a longer period of time. Membrane provides waterproofing but feels warmer – WRU uppers may be sufficient for moderate moisture.

Is there chainsaw protection in safety shoes?

Yes, but these are specialized models. If you work close to chainsaws, you should choose certified footwear with chainsaw protection and follow applicable forestry requirements.

How long will the footwear last?

For daily use, typically 12–18 months. Replace sooner if there is obvious wear, reduced grip or if uppers/joints are damaged by chemicals.

Which brands are good choices?

Monitor, AIRTOX, HKSDK, Solid Gear and Toe Guard covers most needs in agriculture and forestry. Supplement with Mascot workwear for a complete solution.
