At Imagewear.dk, we are proud to present a sustainable solution in collaboration with Sunwill Uniforms and F. Engel: RE:TURN - a takeback system that helps companies handle the return and recycling of worn workwear.

Our ambition is to make a positive difference for the climate by offering our customers an easy and efficient way to return used workwear. RE:TURN is a simple logistics solution that makes it possible for companies to send used textiles for further processing. We facilitate the entire process with a return and collection system, so it is easy and documented for companies to contribute to the green transition.

The benefits for your company include:

The opportunity to receive a report on the returned textiles, which can be used to document and improve the company's CO2 accounting.
A sustainable solution that shows your commitment to the environment and strengthens your company's CSR profile.
We invite you and your company to be part of this important change, where together we can give used workwear a new life - either as fibers for new textiles or as insulation material. Let us help you make a difference and take responsibility for the future!

Takeback of worn uniforms and workwear
Did you know that 1,400 liters of water are used to produce just one T-shirt? The textile industry has a significant climate footprint, as textile production requires an extremely high consumption of water, energy and certain chemicals. We would like to do something about this in collaboration with Danish companies that use clothing from SUNWILL.

RE:TURN – how recycling works RE-Turn box - Clothes for recycling
SUNWILL arranges transport of the used clothes, which are sent to their partner SOEX in Germany, where they have more than 20 years of experience in textile sorting for recycling and reuse of clothes.
With SUNWILL RE:TURN it is made easy for you to send used clothes for recycling. All you have to do is put the worn-out clothes in the
provided RE:TURN box, which is located at your company's chosen RE:TURN location.

When the RE:TURN box is full, the clothes are collected by SUNWILL after the collection has been registered using our returns system, which generates the relevant information for the shipping label, packaging and collection.

When the RE:TURN shipment arrives at SUNWILL, the clothing is weighed and registered until we have collected a truckload of used clothing.
It is then sent to SOEX, which takes care of the further recycling process.

The large quantities of textiles are sorted at SOEX, where the collected workwear is sorted and converted into, among other things, fibers that can be used for new textile productions and yarns or for insulation material in, for example, the construction industry and the automotive industry.

NB! Remember that the clothing must be washed and clean. Since shoes are not part of SUNWILL RE:TURN, we unfortunately cannot offer to collect these.

SUNWILL's innovative partner – SOEX
SOEXAt SUNWILL, we see it as part of our social responsibility to contribute to reducing resource consumption in the textile industry by sending discarded men's clothing for recycling. That is why we have entered into a partnership with German SOEX.

Since 2021, SOEX has been using advanced robotic technology to sort textiles into materials and colors for the recycling of clothing fibers as part of their work to utilize the valuable raw materials that used clothing constitutes. SOEX was established back in 1977 and has since worked with textiles – including the sale, collection and final recycling of fibers.

SOEX acquired EFIBA in 1993, which collects discarded clothing from collection fractions in German cities. In 1998, the facilities in Wolfen became a reality. Here, they could now mechanically recycle clothing that could not be resold into insulation materials. In 2009, I:Collect was established as an incentive for consumers to return used clothing.

Sorting of material types
The first thing that happens when the worn and scrapped clothing arrives at SOEX’s facilities in Wolfen, Germany, is that the bags are sorted. Clothing is separated from shoes and other waste that is placed in the bags and that is not textiles. The clothes are then automatically sorted by robots based on material composition, as different materials require different recycling processes in order to recycle the largest possible percentage of the textile waste.

Sorting method – technological advances

Today, less than 1% of all clothing in the world is recycled, which means that an inappropriately large amount of textiles that could have been recycled is simply discarded and burned.

The primary challenge in recycling textiles is the composition and mix of materials, as all fiber types must be separated from each other in order to be used again. Fiber-to-fiber recycling requires advanced technology, and at SOEX they have developed an innovative sorting method for recycling.

An artificial intelligence that uses infrared light very precisely identifies the individual materials of the textiles and can then sort them in a fully automated process according to material type and color. This sorting station can handle approximately 600 kg per hour. The fibers can then be recycled using chemical degradation and used for new yarn in a closed circular loop.

OPEN AND CLOSED LOOP RECYCLING
The process behind the chemical breakdown of clothing fibers so that they can be recycled into yarn is called closed loop. Not all materials can currently be chemically degraded, but SOEX is working with a number of technologically leading partners to develop new methods to achieve one-to-one fiber recycling to reduce the fashion industry's climate footprint.

There is still some way to go before that goal is reached, but SOEX can currently identify 78 materials and material combinations with an accuracy of 95%. When the clothes are sorted, some of the textiles will be of a quality that cannot be incorporated into new fibers in the chemical degradation process. This part is then sent for mechanical recycling, where the textiles are divided into smaller pieces in large machines that tear the clothes apart – industrial fiber shredding of “post-consumer” waste in an open loop, i.e. an open circuit. The majority of the mechanically shredded fibers are used for insulation in the construction and automotive industries. Some of the mechanically shredded textiles can also be included in projects with companies interested in circular projects and products.
Incineration of non-recyclable parts

During the initial sorting, products that do not comply with SOEX’s product collection list are set aside for incineration.

In addition, there will be a small percentage of the clothes submitted that are so damaged that the fibers cannot be used again, either by chemical or mechanical shredding. This clothing is incinerated together with generally sorted waste.

SOEX's clear mission is to recycle as much as possible and to ensure that incineration is the last resort, e.g. for contaminated clothing. This is one of the reasons why it is important that the clothing sent for recycling via SUNWILL RE:TURN is clean.

RE:TURN – DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS?

COLLECTION

How do I order a collection?
Contact your dealer who is booking the collection. Simply inform them of the number of boxes and their size.

Should I order a collection for just one bag/box, or can I collect several together?
The best option is to collect several at a time.

SHIPPING

How do I order new or more boxes?
Please contact your dealer or SUNWILL sales representative.

SUNWILL'S PARTNERS

Why have you chosen SOEX?
We have chosen to cooperate with SOEX because the company has more than 40 years of experience in the field and is well represented across Europe.

Does it make sense to send the clothes back to you to send them on to SOEX?
Yes, because we register the weight of the clothes in connection with shipment to SOEX. We also prepare documentation on CO2 emissions regarding transport, which can be used in the ESG accounts.

Have you visited SOEX?
We have visited SOEX up to several times over the past year.

Are there others who use SOEX for the same purpose?
SOEX cooperates with both well-known and unknown textile companies across Europe.

TAKEBACK / RE:TURN COSTS

What is the cost to us?
It depends on how much clothing is sent for recycling. Contact SUNWILL for more detailed information.

COLLECTION BOX

What can go in the box?
ONLY clothing.

Can we collect brands other than SUNWILLs?
Yes, we do not see it as an obstacle that other brands are included in the box. On the contrary, we see it as an advantage, as this way we send more clothing on for recycling.

Can the clothing be holed? And dirty?
The clothing can have holes, but it must NOT be dirty.

TAKEBACK/RE:TURN PROCESS

Can we trust that the clothes will not end up as a textile island?
Yes, because we have an agreement with SOEX that the clothes sent via SUNWILL will either be converted into fibers or recycled for insulation.

Do you produce goods made from the used clothes?
No, we do not re-sew the used clothes into new ones. Everything will either be converted into fibers, insulation or burned if the clothes are too dirty or in too poor condition when sorted.

How often do I get a statement of CO2?
Together with the invoice, you will receive an overview of the CO2 footprint for the disposal of the textile waste. The calculation will be divided into transport and textile processing. Documentation from January 1, 2024.

CSR - SUBJECT-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
Who ensures that the clothes do not end up in Africa?
Is there a third-party review?
There is no third-party review of the shipments, but our partner has been audited by several large corporations and has sent GPS trackers with their clothing collections, where clothes collected in Paris, Brussels and Hamburg all ended up at the sorting center in Wolfen, Germany.

How can we be sure that all the clothes are not burned?
Our partner in Germany sorts into 400 different articles. Some are sold on in their intact form, but not clothes that come from RE:TURN, others are mechanically shredded into fibers that can be recycled. Clothes that are too bad for fiber shredding are made into insulation material for, among other things. automotive industry

Shredding of fibers contributes to the emission of microplastics. What is your partner doing to reduce emissions?
Our partner SOEX is working intensively to build up more chemical shredding capacity for fibers. Here it is more possible to minimize the loss of valuable resources compared to mechanical shredding, where there is greater waste and thus also a greater emission of microplastics.

Why are the textiles transported to Germany?
SUNWILL has customers located throughout Europe. Germany is therefore a central location in relation to our customers and thus collection.

It is more sustainable to reuse clothing. Why have you opted out of that option?
SUNWILL has chosen not to resell the collected clothing, as there are technical qualities of the clothing that we cannot guarantee through
resale/second hand.
